COMPANY HISTORY & BACKGROUND
In The Beginning:
SEM's 41 year history of continuous success began in 1962. Back then it was known as Video Associates and the company’s principal areas of endeavor included television production, media, product placement, barter, magazine publishing, as well as producing the syndicated NFL Football Highlights Shows.
-
As Video Associates Grew...
The company soon expanded in to the creation and production of TV specials, game shows, variety shows and events, including “Mrs. America”, “Up Country-Down Under”, “Something Good” and “Miss Universe”.
Our entertainment programs have featured superstar performers like Patti Austin, Nick Clooney, Phyllis Hyman, Florence Henderson, and Emmy award winning directors including Craig Janoff (The Superbowl), Jeff Margolis (The Emmy Awards Show), and Larry Einhorn.
Concurrently, our syndication and media buying divisions became strong support for our growing production and entertainment businesses.
-
Getting Into The Game:
On the Sports side of the house, SEM pioneered the in-show promotions industry by setting up and maintaining long standing relationships with the NFL, NBA, NHL, and MLB, along with the stations that carry their pre game and post game shows. By bringing local and regional sponsors together with the teams and stations, Video Associates established itself as the leader in all major league pre game and post game promotions. Legendary sports luminaries such as Sal Marciano and Marv Albert were key players in the growth of our Sports business.
-
SEM is born:
In 1972, Seymour and Marilyn Sietz became partners with Hal Blake and David Brin. The company changed its name to BBS (Brin, Blake & Sietz). The company soon expanded into the premiums business to support the promotional division, and thus became active in the fulfillment side as well. Five years of strong growth followed.
In 1981, Seymour bought out Hal and David and changed the company’s name to Sports Entertainment Media Corp. (SEM). Since then, SEM has maintained its leadership position in the Sports Marketing of major league pre/post game shows and highlight’s shows, as well as continuing to be a producer of quality family programming for national and international TV audiences.
-
Here Comes The Next Generation:
In 1988, Adam Sietz -- who received his first Emmy Award at the age of 21-- joined SEM as a salesperson. In 1991, he was promoted to Director Of Sales and Pamela Cimber (formerly Sietz) joined the SEM team. Adam assumed the Presidency of SEM upon Seymour’s retirement in 1993.
As a result of his leadership, the SEM team has helped to produce ratings hits with Mrs. America (now a network evergreen for PAX), The Victor Awards (on FOX SPORTS NET), as well as producing and performing with Comedy Sportz (in NY and Fla.), and producing improvisational shows for the Friars Club in New York City.
-
Some of the projects now under active development at SEM include:
"The Handy Woman" - A Home Improvement / Design show written produced and directed by woman for woman.
“Comedy Combat” - A round-robin improvisational team competition.
"Live at the Friars" - Eminating from the legendary Friars Club, This will be a showcase of new and established entertainers.
